Forex Analysis | October 22, 2020

Equities are largely in a basing pattern over the last day or so, but finished yesterday on the lows. Futures have recently broken below a base, and have been climbing so far today (though not much, and for some reason the change% is showing that it’s down. I’m not sure why). I don’t see much conviction in either direction for equities right now, so I’ll take the baskets at face value.

USD – N – This was down strong yesterday, but rallied by the end of the day. Today, it’s up a little right now, but doesn’t look very strong. That said, it doesn’t look like it has as much weakness as it had yesterday, either, so I think I’m going to hold off here

CAD – S/N – This dropped a ton yesterday and has been basing since. It’s sitting on some support right now, so there may be opportunity if it can push through this level. I’ll take a look at individual charts to see if I can short this today

Today’s Pairs

GBP/CAD – Long
NZD/CAD – Long

EUR – N – This was weak yesterday, but stalled out at some support and rallied. Today, it’s down again, but stalling at that same level of support. This also broke to new recent highs a couple of days ago, so this could simply be a pullback before it pushes higher again. I don’t think it has much more room, so I’ll hold off here

GBP – L/N – This spiked a ton yesterday and pushed out of the range it’s been in for almost a month. Today, it’s pulled back some, but hasn’t even gotten as low as the prior resistance level. It did stall at a resistance level, though, so if it can push back up through the day’s highs, this could be a great long. I’ll take a look

JPY – N – This has been in a range for the last week, and doesn’t look like it’s going too far today. It pushed up to near yesterday’s highs already today, but didn’t break that level — and that’s still a bit below the high of the range. Since, it’s pulled back and is closer to it’s open than the highs of the day. I’ll hold off here this morning

AUD – L – After a nice rally yesterday, this stalled at resistance that was prior support. Today, it’s pushed down some, but is sitting closer to the highs now. I don’t really see this pushing up much higher today, though it’s a possibility. I’ll keep an eye on it, but I’m not going to look to trade it quite yet

NZD – L/N – If equities are strong, I’ll look at this to the long side. It’s up a good amount already on the day, but is stalling at a pretty major resistance level. I don’t think it has the momentum to push through, but if it does, I want to be looking at a chart. We’ll see how it looks, but I won’t chase, and I’ll definitely wait until I see what equities do before making any decision

CHF – N – This dropped a lot yesterday, stalled at some support and rallied, and is down again today, stalling on that same level of support. I’ll leave this alone for now
